ACE6's COFDM microwave networking solution, mMESH, is the latest in advance microwave communication technology. Able to form networks in both line-of-sight and non line-of-sight situation, mMESH is a hub-less microwave communication product that allows point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and multipoint-to-multipoint connectivity. Each node in the network can function as a repeater, allowing mMESH to offer extended range coverage.
mMESH is designed to operate on a mesh/manet platform whereby all radios operating in the network are self-healing, consistently forming new RF paths or links to create the most robust network possible in any given environment. The mMESH is a quick deploy bi-directional solution; a private IP-based network can be established in a matter of minutes, interconnecting up to 32 radios in a single frequency.
Being fully IP-based, mMESH network is able to interconnect with any legacy IP-based network, including satellite IP networks. When combined with traditional satcom or other long range strategic communication techniques, mMESH offers a truly last-mile connectivity for frontline operations, allowing the transmission of voice, data and video from front-end to back-end Operation Command.
Equipped with AES 256 and various anti-interference options like Hop Mode, SMART Mode, and Interference Resistance, ACE6 mMESH provides a secure private communication network for the most extreme operating environments.
COFDM is a modulation scheme that divides a single digital signal across 3000 or more signal carriers simultaneously. The signals are sent at right angles to each other (hence, orthogonal) so they do not interfere with each other. COFDM is widely adopted in globally and is supported by the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) set of standards.
The main reason for using COFDM is its ability to completely overcome multipath effects. When a signal is transmitted, it is met with obstructions such as trees, buildings, mountains, and even people, which scatter the signal causing it to take two or more paths to reach its final destination, for example for video broadcasting the final destination will be the television set. For video, the late arrival of the scattered portions of the signal can cause ghost images. Multipath effects can occur simply by an individual walking into the room. For this very reason, some consumers in urban areas, or areas with rugged terrain, will opt for cable or satellite television instead of fighting their antennas for better reception.
COFDM is resistant to multipath effects because it uses multiple carriers to transmit the same signal. Instead of the signal scattering when met with an obstacle, it flows around the obstacle like a river flows around a rock making it perfect for video, audio and data transmission.
This is one major reason why COFDM technology is widely adopted for digital video signal transmission. Broadcasting stations can transmit the same signal 100 percent of the time across many areas using single frequency networks; a single frequency network is a network of several stations that broadcast the same signal simultaneously using multiple transmitters. This allows television viewers to watch the same broadcast anywhere in the city without interference. Subsequently COFDM technology is used to transmit IP-based video, audio and data, and the same advantages of COFDM are applied to IP transmission as well.
mMESH Technology Basics
ACE6 mMESH microwave products fully support mobility; hence it’s the ideal solution for mobile surveillance application. Each network only occupies one frequency channel, and up to 32 mMESH nodes can be included into one network. mMESH network occupies a selection of 2.5Mhz, 5Mhz, 10Mhz and 20Mhz (with additional licence) bandwidth. This can give a data throughput of up to 21Mbs with the basic licence (and depends on setting). With a high Throughput Licences add-on, the data throughput can be increased to approximately 56Mbps maximum.
The product’s transport layer is based on TCP/IP, which means any IP devices can be integrated to the mMESH network. By using ACE6 video compression technology, seamless transmission of MPEG4 quality video over the IP mesh network is obtainable, even when the mesh is reconfiguring to a different shape. Antenna diversity at each node (each node consists of two antennas) gives further protection against fading, furthermore each mesh radio is built-in with guard intervals and error correction to enhance signal reconstruction.
