About Charis Chan
Charis Chan is the Director for Global Engagement (GE) of the Singapore Red Cross (SRC). She currently oversees three crucial offices of the humanitarian organization - International Services, Humanitarian Engagement and the Centre of Excellence Pandemic Preparedness.
Charis joined the Singapore Red Cross in 2012, and was assigned a portfolio with a primary focus on humanitarian disaster response operations in the Asia, Americas and Africa Regions. Her task involved coordinating SRC’s response to natural disasters and man-made crises in Southeast Asia, South Asia and Asia-Pacific. Some of the major operations that Charis has handled include the Typhoon Haiyan (2013), Nepal Earthquake (2015), Rakhine Crisis (2017) and the Coronavirus Response 2020 (with a focus on Asia Pacific). The response included support in a number of areas including the provision of PPEs, food, water, sanitation and hygiene, psychosocial support, livelihood support, healthcare etc.
